What Causes Vaginal Dryness and Loss of Libido?

Balanced hormone levels are essential for reproductive health. During the menopause transition, however, levels of estrogen and other essential hormones fluctuate drastically. Low estrogen has a negative impact on the lining of the vagina, and typically, less moisture is produced by the body to lubricate it. These hormonal changes and other menopause symptoms also influence sex drive, though it is multifaceted and can also be affected by stress and relationship problems.

Kegel Exercises

Kegel exercises are also called pelvic floor exercises because they strengthen the muscles that support the organs located in the pelvis, like the bladder. When done regularly, these exercises can strengthen the vagina wall and also improve sexual response and libido. Kegels are easy to do because they are silent at can be performed any time. To do these exercises:

  1. Make sure your bladder is empty.
  2. Squeeze your pelvic muscles as though you are trying to hold in urine. Keep squeezing for 10 seconds.
  3. Release the muscles and rest for 10 seconds.
  4. Repeat the contractions 10 times, three times a day.
